TDS Teams Calling

Microsoft Teams phone system with TDS as your carrier

TDS Teams Calling turns Microsoft Teams into your business phone system. It connects Microsoft Teams to the TDS Hosted VoIP platform through Direct Routing, so your team keeps Teams as its phone app while TDS supplies the numbers, the dial tone and the support. Prefer to keep your TDS phone system as it is? Teams can run as a softphone on it instead. No Microsoft Calling Plan needed.

What it is

Teams becomes the phone. TDS runs the calls.

Microsoft Teams can make and take outside calls, but Microsoft has to get those calls from a carrier. TDS Teams Calling makes TDS that carrier. Your numbers, your minutes and your support come from TeleData Services, and your people never leave Teams.

No Microsoft Calling Plan needed

TDS supplies the numbers and the calling, so you skip the per-user Calling Plan. Direct Routing uses your Teams Phone license; a Hosted VoIP Connection can run without one.

Keep your numbers and your desk phones

Bring your existing numbers. Staff who need a desk phone, paging, fax or an analog line stay on TDS Hosted VoIP in the same tenant.

One bill, one support team

Teams users, desk phones, SIP trunks and an on-premise PBX can all live under one Microsoft tenant with TDS supporting the whole thing.

Dial tone inside the app your staff already live in

TDS Teams Calling connects TDS Hosted VoIP to Microsoft Teams through Direct Routing, so the Teams dial pad places and receives real business calls on your TDS numbers.

Who it is for

Built for Microsoft 365 shops and TDS Hosted VoIP customers

Companies standardized on Microsoft 365

You already run email, files and meetings in Microsoft 365. TDS Teams Calling retires the separate phone system and puts calling where your people already are.

TDS Hosted VoIP customers adding Teams

Give the back office Teams calling without giving up what the front office relies on: desk phones, call queues, paging, fax and analog devices.

Hybrid and multi-site teams

One number follows each person across the Teams desktop app, mobile app and a desk phone, in the office or at home.

How it connects

Two ways to connect Teams to TDS

Direct Routing is our standard approach: TDS connects your Microsoft 365 tenant to TDS Hosted VoIP and manages routing, numbers and dial plans for you. A Hosted VoIP Connection is the alternative: Teams becomes a softphone on your TDS phone system, and your numbers and call flows stay where they are. We recommend one model for your business after the tenant review.

Why we lead with Direct Routing

Your TDS numbers, desk phones, paging and fax work alongside Teams in one system

TDS manages routing, dial plans and hybrid users from one portal

No session border controller for you to buy or host

Move people between Teams and desk phones without a migration project

Key benefits

What you get in a Microsoft Teams phone system from TDS

Keep your numbers

Your existing TDS numbers, and numbers you port in, ring in Teams. No renumbering, no new business cards.

Manage it your way

With Direct Routing, TDS manages numbers and routing for you. With a Hosted VoIP Connection, your TDS phone system keeps running as it is and Teams becomes one more way to use it.

Live in days, not months

Connecting your tenant is a SIP trunk and a few settings, not a migration project. Setup is scoped and quoted with your seat count.

Hybrid by design

Teams users, TDS Hosted VoIP desk phones, SIP trunks and an on-premise PBX can share one Microsoft tenant. One bill, one support team.

No hardware to buy or run

Session border controllers run in Microsoft Azure, not in your closet. Nothing to rack, patch or replace.

Grows with you

Add numbers in bulk or by API as you hire, and move users between Teams and desk phones without a project.

Add-ons

Two add-ons that live inside Teams

Business SMS inside Teams

Customers text your business number. Your team answers from the Teams app, with no new app to install and no Microsoft add-on license.

Where it fits: customer support and ticket updates, appointment reminders, dispatch and field coordination, sales follow-up, two-way opt-in campaigns, internal alerts.

AI Voice Agents for Teams Phone

Replaces the auto attendant and voicemail with an agent that answers, takes messages and routes callers. Works with Calling Plans and Direct Routing.

Where it fits: front-desk reception and overflow, after-hours coverage, inbound sales qualification, Tier-1 helpdesk triage, patient intake, professional services intake.

Not on Teams? TDS AI Voice Agents does the same job on the TDS Hosted VoIP platform.

How it works

From your Teams tenant to dial tone

1. Review your tenant

We check your Teams Phone licensing, list the numbers to keep and decide who needs a desk phone alongside Teams.

2. Connect TDS to Teams

We configure Direct Routing between your Microsoft 365 tenant and TDS, or connect Teams to your TDS phone system as a softphone if that model fits your team better.

3. Port and assign numbers

Existing numbers port to TDS and are assigned to users and groups. Desk phones go on TDS Hosted VoIP in the same tenant.

4. Support from one team

TDS supports the connection, the numbers and the call quality. One help desk for Teams calling and desk phones alike.

Rollout

Live in days, not a migration project

TDS Teams Calling is enabled per user from the Teams admin center. Pilot it with one department, keep desk phones where they make sense, and move the rest when you are ready.

FAQs

Microsoft Teams phone system: what buyers ask first

No. TDS supplies the numbers and the calling, so your Microsoft Teams phone system runs on TDS numbers. With Direct Routing, each user still needs Microsoft’s Teams Phone license, which is what lets Teams act as a phone; TDS Teams Calling replaces the Calling Plan, not the Phone license. With a Hosted VoIP Connection, a calling app add-on from TDS lets users call from Teams without one.

Teams Phone is the Microsoft license that turns Teams into a phone: a dial pad, voicemail, call queues and auto attendants. It does not include phone numbers or a connection to the public phone network. TDS Teams Calling adds that part: TDS becomes the carrier behind Teams through Direct Routing, supplies the numbers and the calling, and supports it from the same help desk that runs TDS Hosted VoIP.

Direct Routing connects Microsoft Teams to a phone carrier through a session border controller, so Teams calls run on that carrier’s numbers instead of a Microsoft Calling Plan. With TDS Teams Calling, TDS is that carrier and runs the connection for you, so there is nothing for you to buy or host.

Choose Direct Routing when Teams should be the phone for your users and TDS should manage numbers and routing for your tenant. Choose a Hosted VoIP Connection when you want to keep your TDS Hosted VoIP system exactly as it is and give people the Teams dial pad as a softphone. Direct Routing is our standard approach; we recommend one model after reviewing your tenant.

Yes. Teams users, TDS Hosted VoIP desk phones, SIP trunks and an on-premise PBX can share one Microsoft tenant, so you can move to Teams calling in stages.

For most office staff, yes. With Teams Phone and TDS Teams Calling every user has a business number inside the Teams desktop and mobile apps, so Teams works as the whole Microsoft Teams phone system for the office. Reception, warehouse, paging, fax and analog devices stay on TDS Hosted VoIP desk phones in the same tenant, so the whole building is one system with one bill and one support team.

Yes. Both connection models bring your own numbers. We handle the port and schedule the cutover so there is no gap.

TDS. The connection, the numbers and the call quality of your Microsoft Teams phone system are supported by the TeleData help desk, the same team that supports TDS Hosted VoIP.

They stay on TDS Hosted VoIP inside the same Microsoft tenant. Front office on desk phones, back office in Teams, one bill and one support team.

Days, not months. Once your Teams Phone licenses are in place, TDS configures Direct Routing for your tenant. A Hosted VoIP Connection is also quick to set up. Setup is scoped and quoted with your seat count.

No. The AI Voice Agents add-on on this page runs on Microsoft Teams Phone. TDS AI Voice Agents is a separate product for the TDS Hosted VoIP platform, sold per agent in Starter, Pro and Elite tiers.
